How does the government or authority control society?

  1. Ayala: My government controls my society by making them think that separating them based on looks is okay. That pretties being seen with uglies is a disgrace. They have a mandatory surgery that replaces their brains. As an ugly, they never would think that they are segregated for a good reason, but after the pretty surgery, they think that be segregated is for the best.

In my novel, the citizens are also segregated by based on their occupation assigned at birth. They also have no choice but believe that this is what's best for the efficiency of the society. No matter their appearance, they come to the conclusion that being with your clones doing the same thing to prepare you for your job, is what's best for the sodiety.

My government is set up in a similar way. Instead of separating them by looks, my government separates them by the color of their blood. The silvers, the high society super humans, are the nobles and control the reds, normal humans who are like slave to the silvers.

  2. The authority in my book are scythes. They are in control because they control the population by gleaning/killing people. Everyone in this book are scared of scythes and if someone talks the wrong way, looks the wrong way, or does something the wrong way to a scythe, then they fear that they might be next for the scythe to kill.

This happens in my book, 1984, too. If the people stick a toe out of line or do anything out of the ordinary, they are banished somewhere, kind of erased.

    2. Riley E- My book is similar because the people who are uglier and informal fear that the pretty and formal people will send them to be punished. If the ugly people make a mistake such as spill a drop of wine, they will get punished.

    3. Annabel: My book is similar because if you do anything wrong you will get killed. The government says the only way to "fix" someone is killing them. But, sometimes even if someone didn't do any thing wrong (for example loving someone) you will die.

In my novel, the government controls the society because the people of the society have no say in their decisions. The government hires scientists to CREATE their citizens so that they can't have the common knowledge to think negatively about their society. They assign each person's role by birth and teach them at a very young age what the government wants them to know whats right and wrong in the government's eyes. Because of this, the society doesn't know their right from their wrong and believe that the society is flawless and the perfect place to live in. They also control where they live, how they live, what to believe, and very strict rules. One of these rules says that you have to be with your clones at all times and also people are separated by birth based on their future occupation.

    1. Ayala: I agree because in my society, my people don't get to choose if they get the surgery or not. It's just mandatory when people turn 16 to get the pretty-making surgery. The government replaces their brains to all think the same.

The government controls the society in my book, 1984, by making them think things that are not true. They use the concept of doublethink to make their citizens believe the government can never lie by making them believe in two different statements at once.

    1. Aaliyah- I agree because in my society the government makes them believe that the society is perfect. They believe that everyone living together is bad and living separate is the only solution. That is why there are five different factions t choose from. So then you will always fit in.

    2. Andrew-In my book they do something similar and they hide the fact that they are purposely infecting people with a controlled sickness to make sure they are not able to overrun them, or protest against them. They only give the virus to the poor people that failed their trial.

  5. Aaliyah- The government controls my book by making the people in the society choose where and how they want to live for the rest of their lives. They have to choose a faction or group to live and stay in forever. If you don't fit in you become factionless, which is equivalent to being homeless. The government is also controlling because the whole society is ruled by one faction, making the other factions feel envious.

My society is ruled by two forces. My book "The Bar Code Tattoo" is ruled by both the government and Global-1. They win the control over society very easily. The government forces you to get a bar code tattoo and if you don't Global-1 spies will beat you to your death. Global-1 also owns every bit of food in the world so they can create the new apocalypse. So basically the government is the "little brother" compared to Global-1.

The government controls my society by using a controlled virus that they put into certain areas. They usually put the virus in thee poor sectors. There are also street police that just walk and monitor the streets 24/7.

My book can relate to yours because Global-1 and the government use there power against people too. But in my book they have to get a bar code which secretly predicts if you are good for cloning or not. They also use the bar code for other things such as credit cards, driver license, I.D, and social security number all in one.

  8. Logan - The Council controls my book's society by making them forget every 12 years, when a comet passes by, while stashing a cure for the Forgetting. If you forget, you forget everything except for the trivial things, such as letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. You forget all of your memories, crimes, family, and friends.

  9. Brooklee- In my book the government is not really an organized government. It is run by the fairy godmother, who basically does whatever she wants to the people of her city. The godmother controls the society by taking people away from their real lives, removing their memory, and forcing them to work at her will. She will harshly punish anyone who refuses to obey her demands.

  10. Annabel: My government controls society by telling them that everything is okay. Like, separating families and killing people is okay. That is another reason people obey the government, if they don't they die.

    1. Brooklee- Your book is similar to mine because my form of government also gives harsh punishments to those who decide to disobey. They do not intent on killing those who disobey, but sometimes the whippings that they receive are just so much that they do die. My government also tricks people into thinking that their lives are completely normal, and they are not, but it is all they can remember about their lives.

    2. Gavin - My book, The Hunger Games, is similar because the Capitol thinks its OK to let innocent children die in the Games,so there is no uprisings in any of the districts or a full-on rebellion against the Capitol.

  11. Ella: The government controls the society in my book by controlling were they live and not letting them to go outside of their city limits. The government also protects them like not doing stuff too dangerous. The government is always tracking everyone with rings or invisible cuffs they have to wear all the time.

My government controls my society because it is the only thing keeping people in check. Due to the fact of my story's city being under ground, the only higher authority's are the mayor and the police. If per say the police department failed or the mayor stopped working, everything would spiral out of control.

My book uses the government to keep people in check to, though the people would not go crazy if they stopped. Good job!

  13. Gavin - In my book, The Hunger Games, the government controls the country of Panem for no more rebellion. To do this, all 12 district to send a boy and a girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in The Hunger Games, a live fight-to-the-death match on TV. This keeps society in line so people don't get the Capitol angry.

In my book one of the ways Queen Lavana controls her people by manipulating their bio-electricity so she can force them do things for her. Another way she keeps control of her people is by pain and fear, and she kills whoever thinks they're brave enough to get in her way.
